SILCHAR: Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy smelt opposition conspiracy behind the sudden labour unrest on Tuesday at Dolu TE during the handing over of land for proposed greenfield airport. Roy said, the Congress had been wooing the Maoist in the national level and here too the opposition party might have instigated a group of labourers to disrupt the process of setting up a greenfield airport at Dolu TE. He however made it clear that the State government would deal the situation in a befitting manner.

On Tuesday, a group of agitated labourers protested while the Cachar district administration led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mansur Ahmed Khan arrived at Lalbagh, an unit of Dolu TE to start the process of demarcation. Khan was accompanied by Supriyo Sikdar, manager of the tea estate. Almost four thousand agitated labourers stopped them from entering into the garden area. They made it clear that until their demands for rehabilitation were ensured they would not allow the administration to step in to the garden. After a few failed attempts to pacify the labourers, Khan spoke to Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli over phone and the latter assured that the demands would definitely be met. The assurances however calmed down the labourers and subsequently the process of demarcation got started.
